Trip to Destin Florida!

This past week Harrison, Pierce, and I took a road trip down to Florida. The trip was amazing. We had absolutely perfect weather low 80s/high 70s and not one cloud in the sky every single day! Making it even better was the fact that it was "off season" and not crowded. We basically had our own pool, never had to wait to eat anywhere and free range on the beach. It was perfect! We will definitely be going back with all of the boys!!

We left last Friday night around 6pm. This worked out pretty well because Harrison fell asleep at about 8pm. We drove until we were about 30 minutes outside of Nashville TN in a town called Columbia. Columbia is where President James Polk lived so the next morning we were able to see his house. That Saturday also happened to be "Mule day" in Columbia TN. There were 10,000 mules in the town and a big parade. You wouldn't think of it as a big production but it really was. Almost every hotel was booked (our luck) and people came from all over (TN, MO, IL, TX, GA, FL, MI, WI, KY just to name a few!)

Harrison was really good for most of the 8 hour trip on Saturday, that is until the last 2.5hours. However we managed to make it through and boy was it worth it! Grandma and Grandpa Caps were there when we arrived. They were there for a long weekend and stayed at the condo next to ours. When we arrived we immediately went to the beach. Harrison of course couldn't get enough of it! I absolutely love Destin/Sandestin beaches. White sand and clear water. Pierce couldn't get over how nice it was. He kept saying it looked like the Caribbean!

The next day Pierce and Grandpa went deep sea fishing. They caught so much fish! We cooked some of it there, but most of it came back to St. Louis with us. That afternoon we spent at the beach. Harrison loved everything about the beach. With each day his fear of the ocean grew less and less which made my fear grow more and more. He really enjoyed trying to run into the ocean without us. Because of this Pierce and I really didn't have a "relaxing" time at the beach, but it was fun! Later that day Grandma and Grandpa babysat Harrison so Pierce and I could play 9 holes of golf and then go to dinner. We played inside "Baytown" at a course called the Raven. According to Pierce it was pretty nice and is where they have had the Senior PGA multiple times. It was a really great day and we both really appreciated Grandma and Grandpa being there to give us a little alone time!

The rest of the week consisted of going to the beach and the pool :) In the mornings we would walk on the beach or go to the Baytown Wharf of Sandestin where there were lots of great shops and restaurants. Our condo was beautiful and in a great location with the beach right outside our door and one of the many pools a few hundred yards away. We were also right across the street from the Baytown Wharf making it easy to shop and eat :)

The trip home was long, 11.5 hours, but Harrison was such a good boy. We left at 430pm on Thursday and drove until we were about 40 minutes past Nashville. He slept from about 8pm on. Friday we only had 4 hours to drive and he slept 2 of them. It was great!!

We hope to be going back to Sandestin in a few years with the whole crew :)
